Borderless Africa: A Sceptic's Guide to the Continental Free Trade Area
Prior to colonialism, Africa, according to the anthropologist Igor Kopytoff, was a “frontier continent” in which resource shortages or disputes within a polity were often resolved by some members simply moving out and onto fresh land. Today, Africa faces greater pressure than ever on its resources in a context of climate change. Yet freedom of movement, though in theory a key part of the continent’s free trade agreement, is far from a reality.
Borderless Africa: A Sceptic’s Guide to the Continental Free Trade Area by Francis Mangeni and Andrew Mold is an important call to action over freedom of movement to maximize the potential of African free trade.
